Not much is changing as Bobby DeLeon, Nyssa’s new wrestling coach, takes the reins of the school’s successful program, given that Luke Cleaver, the former head wrestling coach, had long prepared him to take over the program.

Juvenile critically injured in Ontario shooting after parking lot fight
A confrontation between people in two vehicles erupted into shooting Friday, Dec. 29, in Ontario. One juvenile is in critical condition, several juveniles are in custody and Ontario police are seeking others. Several vehicles were struck by gunfire along Southwest Alameda Drive south of Southwest Fourth Ave.

Nyssa dinner saved as helpers answer organizer’s SOS
Volunteers helped save Nyssa’s community Christmas dinner Monday, Dec. 25 and served just under 150 free hot meals at the Nyssa Senior Citizens Center. Meanwhile, in Vale, organizers reported that the event served over 300 meals.
Attorneys press court to dismiss school superintendent’s lawsuit
Lawyers for the Ontario School District are seeking to have court claims it discriminated against Nikki Albisu, the district’s superintendent, tossed out, saying the charges are ” factually unsupported.” The case apparently will go on hold because Albisu and the district recently agreed to try to mediate their dispute.
In that arrangement, the judge will act as a mediator in a settlement conference and help the opposing sides sift through the facts, analyze the legal issues, and impartially evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the case in hopes of getting both sides to a compromise.
Nyssa student club brings holiday cheer to the elderly
A middle school program designed to prepare students for a career in health care and engage with the community visited a local long-term care facility with Alzheimer’s and dementia patients last week.
Ontario boys basketball team back on the court
Tension between the Ontario boys basketball head coach and a group of players came down to opinions on “coaching and playing time,” according to the school district public relations coordinator. No players or coaches were suspended or put on probation for the disagreements and the team is back on the court after a two-game hiatus.
Volunteers step up, saving Nyssa Christmas dinner
Dinner will be served after all on Christmas Day in Nyssa. Lori Rae, organizer of the community dinner said her phone’s been “blowing up” with offers of help after an Enterprise story put out the word that the event might have to cancel due to lack of volunteers.
