Lady Viks’ roll past Nyssa in league action but drop match to The Dalles at Sisters tourney

NYSSA – Vale’s Wrenna Cooke scored 14 points with four aces and tallied 13 digs while McKenna Justus was 11 of 12 from the service line to help the Vikings sweep Nyssa Thursday, Sept. 14, in a Greater Oregon League volleyball match.

Playing at home, Vale defeated the Bulldogs 25-16, 25-15 and 25-9.

The Lady Vik’s served an overall 92% for the game.

The Bulldogs (3-14) and Lady Viks’ competed in tournaments over the weekend. After pool play, Vale (5-5) fell to The Dalles in the single elimination bracket of the Sisters tournament on Saturday, Sept. 16.

Nyssa, meanwhile, dropped matches to Damascus Christian, Wallowa, Joseph, Heppner, Imbler and Union at the East West Crossover Tournament at North Powder High School on Friday, Sept. 15 and Saturday, Sept. 16.

“We had some ups and downs this weekend. We need to keep working on making adjustments quickly and effectively,” said Vale volleyball coach Shannon Steele.

Vale will play league-leading Burns on Tuesday, Sept. 19, at 6 p.m. at Vale High School.

Nyssa next plays McLoughlin High School at home Friday, Sept. 22, at 6 p.m.
