Brett Jackson, new principal at Nyssa High School, got his first taste of the giving nature of the Nyssa community with the delivery of Hero Day supplies by community supporters Jewell Maine and Susan Barton. The donations were “awesome,” he said. Nyssa Elementary principal Matt Murray and Middle School principal Luke Cleaver also accepted boxes of donations from the effort.Hero Day, held Aug. 6, saw community members coming together to honor Nyssa School District teachers with an evening of music, food, games and time to visit. People brought school supplies to donate, and the sale of hot dogs and popcorn provided funds to buy more. Along with the boxes of supplies, more than $270 was raised for school supplies.
