Ontario High School football fundraiser kicks off Saturday

ONTARIO – The 3rd annual Cardinal and Corn fundraiser will kick off Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Ontario Elks Lodge.

The event, sponsored by the Ontario Friends of Football, will consist of a taco dinner, a silent and live auction, and a dance that begins at 9 p.m.

Tickets for the event cost $25. Proceeds from the event go to help the high school and middle school football programs.

“It is all generated by donations from the community. Hopefully we will do well,” said Ontario resident Kim Lopez, who spearheads the event.

Lopez said in the past the fundraiser generated between $40,000 and $45,000. The money, she said, has been used to buy equipment for the high school weight room, repair the scoreboard at the football field and to place a new roof on the football equipment shed.

“It benefits the whole high school, not just the football team,” said Lopez.

Funds from the event also helped purchase new headsets for the Tiger varsity football coaching staff.

Lopez said the event “usually sells out,” and she is expecting a big crowd Saturday.
