NYSSA - The Nyssa Food Service Program (no charge meals) for children 1 to 18 continues through June 28 in the main cafeteria at the Nyssa School District.
Breakfast is served from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Lunch is served from 11 a.m. to noon.
Starting July 1, lunches will be served at Nyssa parks and Rio Vista. A complete schedule will be in next week’s column.
• A visit to the Nyssa Library last week while our grandchildren were in town introduced us to an enthusiastic group during story time – it’s at 11 a.m. on Tuesdays – and helpful library staff during craft time, building paper bag kites.
This week’s activity is creating a constellation viewer. On Wednesday at 2 p.m. visitors to the library can build a rocket and launch it.
Summer reading is halfway over, but it’s not too late to get in on the action reading, creating and earning prizes.
• If you have visitors in town, the Oregon Trail Agricultural Museum is a great place to visit. Located on Good Avenue in the Nyssa Historic District, the museum is open Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
There are four buildings in the district on the Historical Register. Learn more about the history of Nyssa and the surrounding area by visiting this local treasure.
• Thunderegg Days is coming – July 11 through July 13.
One of the events will be the 19th annual Quilt Show. Those with quilts or other fiber arts (embroidery, knitting, crochet, etc.) are encouraged to enter their items. There is no charge to enter. Entry forms can be obtained at Country Corners Quilting and Marilynn’s Pickets & Patchwork. Volunteers will also be needed to help during the show.
