NYSSA – The Nyssa Volunteer Fireman’s Annual Ball will be held at the Eagles Hall on Saturday. Doors open at 6 p.m., with dinner at 7 and an auction following dinner. Purchase your tickets at Nyssa Umpqua Bank, Valley Wide Co-Op or the fire department. The dinner will cost $15 for chicken, $20 for tri-tip , or $25 for a combo. The meal includes baked potato, salad, rolls and beans. Children ages 4-12 can eat for half price, and age 3 and under admitted for free.
The dance starts at 9 p.m. for age 21 and older. Come out and support our Nyssa Volunteer Fire Department!
• The Nyssa Library received some very exciting news this week! They are the recipients of a Library Science Technology Act grant. This grant will enable them to complete the digitalization of their holdings of Nyssa Gate City Journal copies from 1954-1978.
The process should be completed by summer 2020. You can check out the copies currently available by visiting the library web site at nyssacity.org/nyssa.library. There, you will find two buttons: one for the 1910-1936 issues and one for the 1937-1953 issues. These historic papers are a treasure trove of information about Nyssa.
Summer reading is coming soon – “Universe of Stories” starts June 4 and is for all ages. There will be weekly prizes and a raffle. The summer reading calendar will be available in May. Stop by the library, get a calendar and open up the universe by reading.
• Saturday from 6-9 p.m. is the monthly dance at the Nyssa Senior Citizens Center. Dale Borge will provide the tunes. Attendees are asked to bring a food item for the potluck.
Also at the center, May 7 is the foot clinic from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The center’s monthly meeting is at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 8, with a potluck at noon.
• Fellowship of Christian Athletes invites everyone to an All You Can Eat Spaghetti Dinner this Saturday, starting at 5 p.m., at Restoration Community Church, 308 Emison Ave. The cost is $5 person. Come and support local middle and high school students.
