ONTARIO – Ontario Police Chief Cal Kunz recently announced he will step down to take the top slot at the West Wendover Police Department in Nevada.
Adam Brown, Ontario city manager, confirmed that Kunz handed in his letter of resignation Dec. 26. Kunz has been Ontario’s chief since June 2016. Kunz’s last day will be Jan. 9.
West Wendover is on the Nevada-Utah border 120 miles west of Salt Lake City, where Kunz once served as a police officer. West Wendover has a population of 4,100.
In his letter Kunz said he had “received professional growth as well as had the pleasure of working with many outstanding individuals.”
“I have been taught many lessons, I have seen many acts of service provided by our police department members and have been humbled as I have witnessed the love and dedication that our police department has for the citizens of this city. For this, I am grateful,” Kunz wrote.
Kunz recently got approval to reorganize the Ontario department, creating new command positions.
Ontario city officials have announced the opening in Ontario and said they will begin reviewing applications Jan. 31.
