Two Ontario Middle School football players seriously injured in Tuesday game

FRUITLAND – Two Ontario Middle School football players were injured in a football game with Fruitland Tuesday afternoon.

Chad Hartley, Ontario Middle School athletic director, said both eighth-grade players suffered head injuries and were evaluated for a concussion.

Both players were injured in the second half of the game. The first player was transported by ambulance to St. Luke’s Fruitland Medical Plaza. The youth was later transported to St. Luke’s Boise Medical Center for more tests Tuesday night and remains hospitalized.

Hartley said the second player was transported to St. Luke’s Fruitland Medical Plaza by his parents where he was treated and released.

After the second player was hurt, Hartley said the game was stopped.

Because both students are minors, Hartley could not release their names or ages.

Hartley said since the incident Ontario and Fruitland middle school officials have been in frequent communication. Hartley said school officials are going to look at video of the game to determine what exactly happened.

“Both schools are trying to handle the situation in terms of it being a traumatic experience for those that were there,” said Hartley.
