ONTARIO – Changes to plans to manage sage-grouse lands in Oregon will be explained at meeting scheduled for this Wednesday evening in Ontario.
The U.S. Bureau of Land Management has scheduled the public meeting for 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Four Rivers Cultural Center.
Officials from the agency will explain the changes proposed for draft environmental impact statement, a key document that will guide federal and state officials as they try to preserve and restore habitat for the sage-grouse. In Oregon, about 22,000 acres are affected.
“After almost three years, we have a good idea of what is working, what needs to improve and how to align federal plans with state plans to better achieve results,” said Jamie Connell, a coordinator of the effort.
The BLM plans information stations at the Ontario event to explain details.
Computer terminals will be available for those who want to write comments on what they learn.
