Congress will have to scramble in the lame-duck session set to begin Nov. 12 to come up with some agreement on the farm bill before benefits run out at the end of the year.

Lawmakers must rewrite the sweeping farm bill every five years to fund farm, food and conservation programs. The current bill expires at midnight Saturday, but Congress is nowhere near ready to consider a new farm bill.
