Time running out, Antelopes pull off dramatic play to snag state title
With one minute and thirty-nine seconds to go in the Antelopes Class 1A game against St. Paul, Adrian faced a 32-30 deficit and had the ball on its own 20-yard line.A season’s worth of pain, sacrifice and high hopes dangled in the balance for Adrian/Jordan Valley (13-0) and the promised land – the end zone – stood 80 yards away.

Crowds set to welcome Santa and Co. in Ontario starting Friday
Santa's Breakfast and the Winter Wonderland Parade – two of Ontario's biggest holiday events of the season are set for Friday at 6:45 a.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m. respectively. The parade queen, Kyla Larson, and a host of other community members are gearing up for the fun.

EDITORIAL: County needs to talk to taxpayers about land debt
EDITORIAL: The Malheur County Court and its economic development arm are asking the state to borrow at least $2.1. million. County Judge Dan Joyce and Greg Smith, the county economic development director, say the county needs to go into hock so it can buy up private industrial land. This is bare ground, empty of anything but weeds and hope.

Book project brings magic of reading to Ontario elementary classroom
Dalia Ontiveros, a first grade teacher at May Roberts Elementary in Ontario, is trying to instill a love of reading in her students. Ontiveros has a goal of increasing literacy among low-income kids by putting more books in their hands, starting with a fundraiser to stock her classroom with a collection of the Magic Tree House series.

Adrian/Jordan Valley championship is a victory for two communities
Adrian/Jordan Valley’s state football title victory Saturday was about a lot of things, but especially about community: two communities. Locals from Adrian and Jordan Valley rejoiced after the win and spoke highly of the commitment displayed by the players, coaches and locals from both cities.

Ontario council approves tiny homes for homeless
The city of Ontario is joining forces with local organizations to help bring shelter for the area's homeless population. The latest idea will place 15 to 20 tiny homes between Northeast 3rd Avenue and Northeast 4th Avenue off North Oregon Street.

Fans filled a rooter bus and otherwise made the trek from Malheur County on Saturday to Hermiston to watch the 1A state football title game. The Lopes came home with the championship, beating St. Paul 38-32.
