A modest effort by the Malheur Enterprise to help foster kids in Malheur County was more successful than expected. Still, there is more to do.

Two suspended after threat at Adrian school
The eighth grade boys were overheard May 22 making a safety threat. Adrian School District Superintendent Kevin Purnell reported the incident to the Malheur County Sheriff's Office. Initially deputies did not consider the threat to be serious. However, the case is still under investigation and both youth may be cited for disorderly conduct.

Police probe rural Ontario stabbing
Police say a 38-year-old man was stabbed numerous times early Wednesday morning in the 4400 block of Oregon Highway 201. The stabbing occurred in the same area where on May 9 Doug Madrid was killed by a shotgun blast. Police haven't commented on whether there is a connection.

The Vale Alumni Association has selected its second class of inductees to the Vale High School Hall of Fame. The banquet this fall will be held at the Malheur County Fairgrounds.

Becky Hawkins and Becca Maag first considered taking on the job last fall. After it appeared no one else was going to step up, they filled out an application and turned it in. Now both said they are ready for a summer of swimming and fun.

They drive over dusty gravel roads, climbing through the sage to reach the site of what was once Malheur City. They honor those buried at the pioneer cemetery, and then gather in the Malheur City Convention Center for a potluck and stories.
