The youngest scholars in town had their first taste of school on Monday at Vale Elementary School’s kindergarten camp. Held annually before the start of the school year, the camp splits three incoming kindergarten classes into morning and afternoon sessions, allowing students to familiarize themselves with their classroom, peers, and teachers in a low-stress setting before the big day.
In an afternoon session with teachers Whitney Barnes and Denise Whittenburg, students were painters, architects, and dancers for a day – and ended the afternoon with an alphabet dance that sent them wagging, yawning, and zig-zagging around their desks. Their first day of school is Friday, Aug. 19.
