Vale roundup: Grab your paint brush for Flag Day in the park

Volunteers paint playground equipment during last year’s Flag Day project, which is set to repeat next Thursday at Wadleigh Park in Vale.

Flag Day goes artistic next week in Vale. The Drexel H. Foundation offers Art in the Park on Flag Day at Wadleigh Park from 9 a.m. to 12 noon Thursday, June 14. Volunteers are invited to help paint the park play equipment and honor the flag in the process.

There will be games and an art contest with prizes for all and trophies for the top winners. Everyone is welcome to come out and help. Paint supplies and treats will be provided, and people are reminded to wear their painting duds.

The creativity continues with the Foundation’s Art Beat on Main Street from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, June 15, at 123 Main St., at the corner of A and Main streets. There will be vendors, a public art project, music, health education and screenings in partnership with the health fair program Spring into Wellness. The event is free. Tours of the Opera House and Vale Hotel also are offered with a cost of $5 per person or $20 for a family of four and up.

• Malheur Drug, 198 A St. W., will celebrate its annual Customer Appreciation Day this Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with give-aways and sales. There will be a lunch served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

• The Vale Emma Humphrey Library is offering its summer reading program, with prizes and activities for kids age 1-14. Registration begins this Thursday at the library.

Participants can win prizes for reading, learn crafts and enjoy music and storytelling. There will be an end-of-summer party.

Vale Elementary students spent part of a day in May sprucing up the grounds of the Stone House Museum. They also toured the museum and learned about local history in the visit, an annual project for the school.
