Pheasant hunt coming up for youngsters

VALE – The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, Oregon Hunters Association, Pheasants Forever, and Snake River Sportsman Shotgun Complex are sponsoring a youth pheasant hunt.

The hunt will take place Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 12-13, at the City of Ontario’s Skyline Farm Access Area at the end of Canyon 2 Road.

Registration for the hunt begins at 8 a.m. and the hunt goes from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This Saturday, Oct. 5, there will be a free shooting skills clinic from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The clinic will take place at the Snake River Sportsman complex, 3443 SW 4th Avenue in Ontario, near the airport.

No registration is required for the clinic, and clay birds and instructions will be provided. A shotgun and ammunition is required.

The pheasant hunt is open to youth 17 and under. Hunters are required to have completed a hunter education program.

Only one youth per adult, with only the youth eligible to carry and use firearms, is permitted.
