Farmworker, 32, killed by machinery in Brogan

BROGAN – A 32-year-old farmworker died last week after an accident with a machine rolling up drip tape in an onion field on Bit Road in Brogan, according to the Malheur County Sheriff’s Office. 

The department received a call for an ambulance at 2:26 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12.

José Vázquez López was rolling drip tape with another worker at McGourty farms when Vázquez López got entangled in the tape and his head and upper torso were pulled into the machine, according to a sheriff’s report. 

Vázquez López died at the scene. 

The sheriff’s office said there was no evidence of foul play, and the death was ruled an accident.
