PTO gears up for busy year helping Nyssa schools

NYSSA – It’s back to school time.

With the kiddos back in the classroom, the Nyssa Elementary School Parent/Teacher Organization also is gearing up for the school year.

The PTO does a great deal to help teachers and students and they need lots of helpers. Send them an e-mail at [email protected] to get on the list of volunteers and helpers.

It isn’t necessary to have a student at NES to get involved; parents, grandparents and Bulldog alumni are welcome to volunteer with PTO activities. The PTO is using “SignUpGenius” to organize the date and time when volunteers are available. An upcoming fundraiser is the Drive for School Spirit where the PTO will paint a blue paw and/or N on your sidewalk or driveway. The cost is $25 each with forms available at Nyssa Elementary School or Umpqua Bank.

Mark your calendars now for the annual carnival to be held on Oct. 4 and contact the PTO to be a helper.

• Summer reading at the Nyssa Library had great participation with 231 readers of all ages and 6,200 total hours read.

In addition to reading, there were several programs, including a STEM program and The Museum of Natural and Cultural History. Library staff sends a special thanks to the following businesses for their donations: Current Physical Therapy, Butler and Looney Law, M&W/Cinnamon & Spice Bakery, Cattle Drive Coffee, A&W, Subway, Les Schwab, Munk Family Dental, Wahooz and Valley Wide.

The library is currently holding a book sale. Stop by and check out the books for sale, with sales supporting events and activities at the library.

• If you haven’t had a taste of “summer candy,” you can pick up a delicious locally-grown cantaloupe at M&W. The Beck family grows the best cantaloupe, right here and it is yummy.
