VALE – The Malheur County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the reported assault of an eight-year-old girl at a Girl Scout function Saturday night.
Brian Wolfe, Malheur County Sheriff, confirmed Monday the incident was under investigation but disclosed few details. He said the investigation would be going “for some time.”
Megan DeLong of Vale, the mother of the injured girl, said her child suffered a severe concussion.
“Two other kids pushed her into a tent,” said DeLong.
DeLong said then two girls assaulted her daughter, slamming her into the ground and choking her.
DeLong said her daughter was attending a Girl Scout Horse Camp at the Vale rodeo grounds. The camp, sponsored by Vale Girl Scout Troop 339, is a three-day event that began Friday and ran through Sunday afternoon.
DeLong said her daughter was picked up by her dad Saturday night after the incident. The next day, DeLong said, her daughter’s father took her to Saint Alphonsus Medical Center Ontario after she complained her head hurt.
“There was bruising on her throat as well,” said DeLong.
