ONTARIO – Steven Romero, a former police lieutenant from southern California, was sworn in as Ontario's new police chief Monday.

Romero was previously a lieutenant at the Hawthorne Police Department, where he worked since 1993. Before that, he worked for the Los Angeles Police Department from 1989 until 1993.

Romero has bachelor's and master's degrees from California State University at Fullerton.
