NYSSA – The Nyssa FFA and FFA Alumni recently held their annual awards banquet and auction, drawing a crowd of community supporters.
The event raises money for scholarships.
Retired Oregon FFA State Officer Sundee Speelmon, alumni of the Adrian FFA Chapter, spoke to the group.
The event included installment of newly elected officers: president Myo Castro, vice president Makayla Kesler, secretary Sara Stephen, treasurer Britain Hartley, reporter Victoria Moore, sentinel Colton Rindlisbacher, historian Zachary Friend, parliamentarian Austin Romans, and alumni chair Chloe Richards.
The event included accolades for chapter members, past and present.
Les Linegar was awarded the Honorary Nyssa FFA Chapter Degree. Linegar spent 35 years teaching ag education in neighboring Ontario, but also provided support and service to the Nyssa chapter and FFA members across the Snake River District.
Linegar was a Nyssa FFA Member as a student and currently is a member of the Nyssa FFA Alumni.
Students honored at the banquet included the Greenhand FFA Degree recipients Marly Ausman, Porter Carlton, Dee Jay Iverson, Emilio Olvera, Zaria Parker, Maryn Wagstaff, Mikayla Peterson, Eric Ramirez, Faith Sanchez, Lynzie Torres, Maritza Trujillo, Zachary Friend, Isaiah Fuentes, Carson Hartley, Laney Hartley, Jaynee Schulthies, Ivan Young, Jose Reyes, and Jasmin Jaime. Star Greenhand went to Jasmin Jaime.
Those recognized for earning the Chapter FFA Degree were Joshua Ashby, Adriana Desantiago, Bryan Dorathy, Jacey Hartley, Shannon Ayarza-McLeod, Victoria Moore, Chloe Richards, Colton Rindlisbacher, Austin Romans, Kailani Schulthies, Sara Stephen, Olivia Williams, Paola Trinidad, and Qyonee Mitchell.
The Star Chapter Farmer Award went to Qyonee Mitchell.
Nyssa agriculture teacher Chad Cruickshank is the advisor for the Nyssa chapter, which has 52 members.
