Ontario track invitational draws a plethroa of teams

ONTARIO – Fifteen teams across the region gathered at Ontario High School Saturday to compete in the annual Saint Alphonsus Invitational.

In the boys’ competition, Fruitland came in first, followed by Baker and Adrian. In the girls’ meet, Baker placed first, Ontario second and Tri-Valley third.

ADRIAN

The Adrian boys and girls track teams turned in several strong performances on Saturday, despite competing the day before at the Don Walker Invitational in Nyssa.

On the boys side, Wade Bond finished first in the 300-meter hurdles in 44.77 and Gavin Bayes came in second in 45.36. Bond also placed second in the 200 and fourth in the 100. Conley Martin posted two top-five finishes in the 200 and 400 races. Bayes and Martin ran with Manuel Aguirre and Ethan Sheets to finish fourth in the 4×100 relay. Meanwhile, Aguirre and Sheets teamed up with Clay Ready and Riley Bradford to finish fourth in the 4×400 relay.

On the girls’ side, Roby Young took first in the 200-meter dash, high jump and triple jump. Young posted personal bests in the 400 with a time of 1:01.08, as well as in the triple jump with a distance of 32-feet-6. Meanwhile, Shayla Griffin put in a strong performance in the 200 and placed fourth with 28.59.

ONTARIO

Several athletes in the Ontario boys and girls track team finished in the top five and recorded personal bests at the Saturday meet. In the boys’ competition, Froylan Santiago posted a personal record when he ran 2:12.27 in the 800 and finished fifth place. Jacob Moore beat his previous record in the 1,500-meter race and placed fourth in 4:33.48. Kevin Beceril set a personal record when he jumped 18-feet-9 and placed fifth in the long jump. Isaac Roberts also surpassed his previous time in the 400 when he clocked in at 55.19. Santiago, Beceril, Moore and Roberts teamed up to finish third in the 4×400 relay with a time of 3:52.18. On the girls’ side, Jazmine Ware won first place in the 100- and 300-meter hurdles and finished second in the long jump. Ware also ran with Sophie Draper, Lexy Jordan and Meagan Houston to finish first in the 4×100 relay.

Katie Adams threw 104-feet-8 to win the title in discus. Adams also placed third in shotput with 32-feet-8. Meagan Houston placed first and posted a season best when she jumped 17-feet-2 in the long jump. Houston also came in second at the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.42. Meanwhile, Lexy Jordan took third in the 100-meter hurdles with a season best of 17.59.

JORDAN VALLEY

Jordan Valley’s Zeke Quintero came in first in the triple jump when he posted a season best of 41-feet-5 beating the second-place finisher by a foot.Quintero also finished fourth in the long jump at19-feet-2.
