Weekend rodeo clinic teaches roping, riding in Nyssa

NYSSA – Beginners can learn how to ride bulls and saddle broncs in a novice clinic this weekend at the Nyssa Rodeo Grounds.

The clinic also will include events such as ranch bronc, bareback, steer riding, mini ponies, and novice barrels, breakaway and team roping. 

The clinic will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, with a rodeo at 2 p.m. Sunday. The nonprofit Euvalcree will host a variety of activities Sunday for Children’s Day.

The clinic is open to anyone 13 years or older for $100 per event. Those 12 or younger can learn to ride ponies or mini bulls for $75. Those interested in barrels, breakaway and team-roping events can learn for $50. 

Lunch will be provided Saturday, with a barbecue and live band music after the clinic. Proof of insurance is required and those under 18 will need a parent signature. 

Sunday’s events will run from 12 noon to 10 p.m., also at the rodeo grounds.There will be children’s activities, a resource fair, face painting, piñatas, raffles and more. The Roughstock Rodeo begins at 2 p.m., followed by live music and dancing at 6 p.m. 

Admission to the events on Sunday will be free for children and $5 for adults.
