New Plymouth downs Vale in prep boys basketball action

NEW PLYMOUTH – Kade Haueter scored 19 points and Tanner Hamilton added 16 but it wasn’t enough against a Pilgrim team that took control early and cruised to a 81-56 non-league win Tuesday night.

Meanwhile in Payette, the Ontario boys’ varsity basketball team notched its first win of the season with a 69-54 non-league triumph over the Pirates. Dallon Haueter paced the Tigers with 20 points while teammate Danny Rodriguez chipped in 19 for Ontario (1-2).

“We played hard as a team for 32 straight minutes. But, most of all, I was so proud of my kids’ character and belief in one another,” said Kevin Attila, Ontario coach.

Ontario next faces Weiser at Ontario at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Vale (0-2) will take on New Plymouth at home Friday.

In girls’ basketball action, Fruitland defeated Ontario (0-4) 51-45 Tuesday night in non-league play.
