ONTARIO – A Fruitland man police say is connected to a deadly shooting at a local restaurant was extradited from Idaho and lodged in the Malheur County Jail Nov. 22.

Jaime Escobedo, 41, faces a felony charge of murder with a firearm and felony attempt to elude police.

Escobedo was arraigned Nov. 23 with his bail set at $1 million. Escobedo is scheduled to enter a plea in Malheur County Circuit Court Dec. 28.

The charges stem from a murder at the Los Potrillos restaurant parking lot in Ontario where Larry James Fuentes, 38, Portland was shot and killed.

After the shooting, police said Escobedo led officers from two states on a high-speed pursuit until he was stopped and arrested in Idaho near Sand Hollow Road and Interstate 84.

Brenden Alexander, Malheur County chief deputy district attorney, said Fuentes was unarmed when the incident occurred. Alexander said six .40 caliber shell casings were discovered in the restaurant parking lot.

Alexander said when Escobedo was arrested by police he had a .40-caliber handgun.
