Ontario sends runner to state in cross country

ONTARIO – Ontario High School runner Jacob Moore will be heading to state championships to represent the Tigers Saturday at Lane Community College in Eugene.

The Ontario boys cross country team placed fourth at the Greater Oregon League district meet held at Treasure Valley Community College last Friday. 

The Tigers were led by Moore, who finished fourth in the race with a time of 17:36.41.

The top five finishers in the 5,000-meter race qualified for the state championships tournament. 

In the boys competition, the Ontario team finished third, tied with McLoughlin. Their next top finisher was sophomore Froylan Santiago in 16th place. 

The girls team also finished third, but no runner qualified for state. The girls’ top runners were freshman Trinity Farr, who finished ninth, and junior Tessa Hart at 12th place.

Meanwhile, the Vale and Nyssa cross country teams also competed in their district tournament last Friday at Pendleton Community Park. 

In the boys race, the Vikings finished fourth and the Bulldogs fifth. Vale’s top runners were senior Japheth Carlson and junior Lenny Barton, who finished ninth and 11th, respectively. Nyssa’s top finishers were juniors Armando Pedraza at 10th place and Myo Castro at 15th. 

Meanwhile, in the girls’ competition, Vale finished sixth and Nyssa at seventh place. The Lady Vikings’ top runners were sophomores Matyson Siddoway and Ashley Jacobs, who finished 23rd and 25th, respectively. The Lady Bulldogs’ top finishers were junior Cristal Trinidad at 30th and senior Rosa Arizmendi at 34th place.
