State agency chases nearly $800 million in new taxes on alcohol, tobacco

Oregon consumers would pay more for beer, wine and even cigars under a proposal from the Oregon Health Authority. The agency said it wants about $80 million for prevention programs - but isn't detailing where another $700 million would go.
