Time to cowboy up at Bulls and Broncs

NYSSA – The biggest rough stock rodeo in the Idaho Cowboys Association kicks off at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Oregon Trail Arena in Nyssa.

Tickets for Bulls and Broncs Extravaganza are $10 for adults and $5 for youth aged 10 to 15. Family tickets – two adults and two youth – are $25.

A kids rodeo – which includes events such as mutton busting and miniature bull riding – kicks off at 5 p.m.

After the rodeo Buckin’ Country will provide live music.

The rodeo is a big deal, said Jason Malchow, vice president of Bulls and Broncs Extravaganza.

“It’s the last rodeo before the (ICA) finals so a lot of cowboys show up,” said Malchow.

Malchow said there will be about 100 riders at the rodeo.

“It is the only ICA rodeo that is strictly rough stock,” said Malchow.

The event is sponsored by Tri-State Rodeo company from Burns.

“We are a faith-based rodeo company that focuses on the future of rodeo,” said Malchow. “Our goal is to reinvigorate rodeo. Give young people skill-appropriate stock for them to ride.”

Malchow said the rodeo is designed to be a family-friendly event.

“It is just some good entertainment and the last point earner for the ICA-carded cowboys trying to go to finals,” said Malchow.

Malchow said last year the event, held in Ontario, attracted about 5,000 fans.

Tickets can be purchased from Tri State Rodeo Co. online or at the gate.
