NYSSA – The Bulldogs boys soccer team earned their second victory of the season by defeating McCall-Donnelly 5-1 on Saturday at Nyssa.

The weekend game was the second time the two teams came head to head on the field. Just two weeks ago, the Bulldogs played their first game against the Vandals at McCall, which they won by a point.

“Last time we played these guys, it was 4-3. So it was a battle,” said Stephen Escobedo, Nyssa boys soccer coach. “After that first one, we saw we were missing a lot of shots. So that was something we worked on since then – not wasting opportunities.”

On Saturday, the Bulldogs found their rhythm from the get go and dominated the Vandals.

Sophomore Javier Castro scored the first goal early in the game and went on to secure two more points. Mario Gramajo and Carlos Castro also each scored a point for the Bulldogs.

“Today went really well – big improvement from the first time we played them,” said Escobedo. “The guys came out quick, and defense played good.”

Escobedo credits defensive player Abram Castro, who “slowed his opponents down” and helped control the movement of the ball.

“Up front, we had some good movement from Mario Gramajo and Javier Castro,” he said.

“They were moving the ball really well. Something we focused on during the week was kinda trying to control the middle a lot better.”

The Bulldogs will play their first league game at 4 p.m. Thursday, hosting Four Rivers.
