Golf tournament raises money for Vale sports

VALE – Vale High School recently hosted its annual golf tournament fundraiser at Country View Golf Course.

The Vale Memorial Golf Tournament benefits both the football and golf programs at the high school.

“We use that money to cover things the school district doesn’t have,” said Tom Snook, Vale’s athletic director and organizer of the tournament. “We use it to get equipment for the kids and buy food for the kids. All the money we raise goes to the kids.”

While the final figure on the money raised hasn’t been calculated yet, the school was satisfied with the turnout.

“We are somewhere in the neighborhood of $4,000,” said Snook

He said he didn’t set a goal for the fundraiser but just tries to “have a nice event and have some fun.”

He said he’s grateful for all the sponsors this year.

“We got 16 rounds of golf donated from seven different golf courses ranging from Pendleton to Jackpot, Nevada,” Snook said. He said local sponsors from Ontario and Vale pitched in gift certificates.

“We gave away gift certificates instead of money” to winning golfers, he said.

Other gift prizes were donated by Dentinger Feed and Seed, and Goodwood Barbecue Co., Logan and Patti Hamilton of Logan’s Market, Doug and Terrie Maag of Y1 Farms donated food for lunch.

“It was a really good day and everybody had a good time,” said Snook. “I can’t thank everyone enough.”
