ONTARIO — A national clothing chain is preparing to open a new store in Ontario, investing $2 million in renovations to its location in east Ontario.

Marshalls on its website says that it continuously changes its selection of clothing at a price 20-60 percent less than regular department or specialty store prices.

It is part of the largest off-price retail company in the U.S., TJX, which also owns TJ Maxx.

The company has not yet said when it would open, according to Dan Cummings, Ontario community development director.

The store will be between Harbor Freight and Waremart on Southeast Goodfellow Street in the building that used to be Kmart. Kmart closed the 22,400-square-foot building in 2015.

Cummings said the company hasn’t released information about how many jobs the store will bring. Ontario has been working with a property developer based in Boise, Hawkins Companies LLC, for five months to bring in a new retail store.

“We’ve needed a clothing store for a long time and we’ve worked pretty hard to get it,” Cummings said.

A measure of that enthusiasm was apparent as a Facebook post about the store by the Enterprise took off Friday. It reached 32,700 people and was shared 469 times by Monday morning.

Among more than 150 comments, Jamie Clayton wrote: “Excited, I hate driving to Nampa all the time to shop.”

“Ontario has needed something like this for a long time,” said Lori Wilson Hoxie.

And from Nancy Hadfield Oakes: “Woooohoooo!!!!”
