Wanda Leola Maag

June 23, 1931 ~ June 7, 2018

Wanda Leola Maag, 86, died June 7, 2018 at Pioneer Place in Vale, OR.

She was born in Vale to Voss and Rose Thompson June 23, 1931, joining her only sibling, Wilma (Fleming).

Wanda graduated from Vale High School in 1949 and attended Eastern Oregon State College in La Grande. She left college to live with and care for her grandmother, Susie Jensen in Vale, but her lifelong friend, Wilma Jacobson Steele, said she left to be closer to Benny!

Wanda met Benny at a Hope dance and they married in 1951. Benny and his dad built their first home on 12th Avenue East where he and Wanda farmed and raised their family.

They enjoyed square dancing, camping, fishing trips, travels and lots of picnics with homemade ice cream. They were active in their community and members of the Vale United Methodist Church.

Wanda truly loved farm life and country living. She enjoyed gardening, both flowers and vegetables, and in her eighth grade yearbook wrote that she would enjoy being a florist.

Wanda’s grandmother Susie came to Vale as a child by wagon train and Wanda always admired the pioneers’ toughness. She was every bit as tough, definitely of pioneer stock and not one to complain.

She was preceded in death by Benny, her husband of 58 years, her sister, Wilma, and all of her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

She is survived by her son Rex Maag (Patty) on the original farm and their three children Kirk, Nick and Melissa Judson (Drew); daughter Lila Vogele (Stan) of Boise and their two sons Kyle and Kaylan; and daughter Loretta Mumford (Bob) of Anchorage, and their son Ty. She is also survived by one great-grandson, Asher Rex Judson, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, June 13, at the Vale Christian Church at 11 a.m. Wanda loved hosting dinners and in her honor dinner will be served immediately following the service.

Her ashes will be laid to rest at Valley View Cemetery at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made to the Pioneer Place Assisted Living (1060 D St W, Vale OR 97918) where Wanda lived for the past three years. A special thank you to the entire staff at Pioneer Place for the support, care, and kindness they provided.

Galloway, Perry DeWayne

Perry DeWayne Galloway left those he loved on January 10, 2018. He was born to Bill and Lorraine Galloway on February 16, 1939, in Vale, Oregon and raised by his grandparents, Perry and Mamie Boles. He was a US Army Veteran and he loved the United States; but he was not a Trump fan and he let everyone know where he stood.  He was preceded in death by brother, Bill Galloway and granddaughter, Cierra Rosalind Lillian B Berry. The highlights of his life were his family and his four-legged companion, Hannah, who was with him until the end. He leaves behind his children; daughter, Monti Galloway-Smith and husband Jeff, from Mauldin SC; daughter, Carrie Stappart and husband Jim, from Reno, Nevada; son, Perry Douglas Galloway, from the Seattle area; and son, Dale Eller from Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. He will be missed by his grandchildren, Amanda Lorraine, his Sunshine; Irish Rose, his Pure of Heart; and John Perry, his Apprentice of Dominoes. He leaves behind siblings: Donna York (who passed on January 15th) and husband Roger; Janice Hamner and husband Terry, both from Irrigon, Oregon; Karen Christiansen and husband Larry from Bakersfield, California. He was loved by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends. Anyone who knew him, knew that he could be stubborn, and at times he could be downright contrary. For those unlucky enough to have played games with him, you knew he was going to cheat-even when you were on the same team. We learned many things from this man, but mostly how to love each other. In memory of Perry, the family suggests that you take time to randomly give someone a hug, or a kind word, or a few dollars to help spread kindness.

York–Norman, Donna Joann

Donna Joann York-Norman left us suddenly to follow her brother and vouch for him at the pearly gates on January 15, 2018, at the age of 75. Donna was born on March 14, 1942 in Klamath Falls, OR to Donavon and Lorraine Hall. They moved to Vale, OR at an early age, but she was afforded the opportunity to travel throughout her youth which drove her desire to continually be on the move enjoying new adventures. She loved taking road trips, preparing homemade travel snacks and simply singing along to the radio. Her passion was spending time with family and friends, reading, playing card games, sharing stories and relaxing. Her life journey brought her to Hermiston, OR in the early 90’s, where she and her husband opened Rogers Appliance and were proud business owners for over 20 years. She retired in 2014 and enjoyed spending her winters in Yuma, AZ as a fun loving “Snowbirder”. Donna was a beloved daughter, sister, mother and wife, touching numerous others with her kindness and ability to see the good in all people. Her positive outlook on life was an inspiration to everyone she knew and called friend. She is preceded in death by her parents, Donavon Hall and Lorraine Palmer and her big brother Perry Dwayne Galloway. Donna is lovingly remembered by her husband and best friend of 28 years, Roger Norman; Sisters, Janice Hamner and Linda Glen; Brothers, Bob Hall and Edward Palmer; 4 children, Robert (Bob) Rumsey from her first marriage to Ron Woodie, Candace (Candy) Woodruff and Nick Rumsey from her second marriage to Bob Rumsey, and William (Don) York from her third marriage to John York; three stepchildren; six grandchildren, Amber Rumsey, Megan Rumsey, Charles Brazeau, Courtney Rumsey, Elizabeth York and Carleen Breece; thirteen step grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; longtime friends, Annette, Jeff and Elisha Adkins and countless others that she touched along the way.

The family of Perry DeWayne Galloway & Donna Joann York- Norman, invite all that knew them to share in a CELEBRATION OF LIFE gathering. Both Perry DeWayne & Donna loved picnics, we are asking you to join us on June 16th from 1:00 PM- 4:00 PM at Wadleigh Park, Pavilion #2 in Vale, Oregon for a picnic in their honor, to share laughter, love, pictures, and stories about them.
