NYSSA — The annual Thunderegg Days Festival kicked off on Thursday with rock hounding tours in the morning and roaring racers by evening.
Six brave souls revved their modified lawn mowers at the Outlaw Lawn Dragsters race at the Nyssa High School parking lot on Thursday evening. The youngest racer was 16-year-old Alex Jeffreys from Dayton, Wash.
These souped-up mowers, capable of reaching 60 mph, attracted of crowd of spectators who anxiously watched for the flicker of the green lighting strips at the starting line.
The Outlaw Lawnmower Dragsters thanked the Nyssa Chamber of Commerce, whhich not only sponsors the Thunderegg Days but also paid for the racers’ spectator insurance.
