The Enterprise

Cadi Corn, a fifth-grader at Nyssa Elementary School, has spelled her way to the Oregon State Fair.

Cadi took first in her division at the recent annual Malheur Education Service District Spelling Contest held in Vale.

In that division, May Roberts Elementary fifth-grader Marly Breach was second and London Echeverria, an Annex Elementary fourth-grader, was third. Other competitors were: Alauna Cameron of Adrian, Kobe Monroe of Aiken, Kianna Newberry of Alameda, Brennan Jager of Harper, Laeschaen Ontiveros of Huntington, Landyn Petty of Vale, and Ethan Evers of Willowcreek.

In the division for sixth through eighth grades, Huntington Charter School seventh-grader Mark Boxberger won. Diego Cruz, May Roberts sixth-grader, was second, and eighth-graders Cy Aman of Adrian and Jacqueline Marquez of Vale tied for third. Other competitors were: Fabian Lopez of Alameda, Aya Shaw of Annex, Jeremiah Wright of Harper, Kylie Bunker of Nyssa, and Aydin Eddy of Willowcreek.

In the high school division, the winner was Montana Polke, a junior at Huntington. Adrian junior Cole Kennedy-Gooch was second. Sierra Manees of Harper also competed. Kennedy-Gooch will represent the division at the state competition because Polke can’t attend.
