Rodeo season kicks off this weekend in Jordan Valley

The Big Loop Rodeo in Jordan Valley is slated this weekend, bringing cowboys, cowgirls and plenty of fun to the tiny southeastern Oregon city. (The Enterprise/File).

JORDAN VALLEY – Whether it’s sunny or rainy, the official start of rodeo season is here with the 59th annual Jordan Valley Big Loop rodeo opening Friday.

Friday’s performance at 1 p.m. features only team roping and big loop action. Saturday and Sunday, the action will start at 1 p.m. and will include the full rodeo activities – team roping, calf roping, junior steer riding, junior barrel racing, open barrel racing, cow riding, saddle bronc action and bull riding.

Admission to the rodeo is $10 for adults, $5 for children age 6 to 13, and free for those under 6. In addition to the rodeo, the Jordan Valley Lions Club will hold a fundraiser dance Saturday night at the high school.

Following the rodeo performance on Saturday, a tri-tip barbecue will be served.

From 8 to 11 a.m. Sunday, a buckaroo breakfast will be served at the high school.

Also Sunday, cowboy church will be held at 9 a.m. at the high school.

For those planning to make it a rodeo weekend, tents are allowed on the school grounds with no set up fees.

Donations are accepted. No dogs are allowed on the school grounds or in the rodeo arena.

Whether there is a parade was uncertain early this week.

A parade may be held on Saturday and Sunday beginning at 11 a.m, starting from the Catholic Parish Hall. Those wanting to participate should contact Mike Hanley at 541-586-2216.
