Ontario Tigers 3rd in GOL meet, sending 10 to state in Eugene

MILTON-FREEWATER – Both the Ontario boys and girls finished third in the team totals as the Greater Oregon League district track and field meet concluded Saturday in Milton-Freewater.

La Grande swept both team championships with Baker taking second place in both the boys and girls competition.

Ontario will make a run at a state title as 10 Tigers are slated to make the trip to Hayward Field starting Friday.

Entering the state meet, Ontario senior Alex Espinoza has the fastest time in the state in the 200 meters with a time of 22.39 seconds. 

Prior to the district meets around the state, the Tiger girls held the quickest time in the 4-by-100 relay and bettered that time in the GOL district meet. While Abbey Wood, Briona Romayor, Lexy Jordan and Meagan Houston posted a new time of 50.36 seconds, two teams in other parts of the state took advantage of district tournament to post quicker times. Currently, the Tigers trail Sisters and Philomath heading to Eugene. Sisters now has a time of 50.06 seconds and Philomath broke the 50-second mark at the Oregon West Conference meet, crossing the line in 49.81 seconds.
