Nyssa track and field

THE MEETS: Taking a break from facing other Malheur County teams, the Nyssa track and field team was in New Plymouth on Thursday, May 3, for the New Plymouth Invite. The Bulldog girls finished seventh while the boys finished 11th. 

The Dawgs were back in action on Friday, May 4, in Baker City for the Baker Invitational. Facing Oregon teams, the Nyssa girls again outdid the boys, finishing in third. The Nyssa boys returned home with a 7th- place finish. 

In Baker City, the Dawgs swept the top three places in the pole vault with Sailor Hartley grabbing first, followed by Sara Stephens and Corrin Shuster.

Adrian track and field

 THE MEETS: The Adrian track and field team competed in the High Desert League Meet on Thursday, May 3, before getting back on the bus to Baker on Friday for the Baker Invitational. 

The Antelopes swept the competition in Prairie City, taking the boys and girls team titles. 

Competing against larger schools in Baker City, the Adrian boys finished 7th and the girls finished 8th.

THE MATCHES: The Vale golf team was in Payette last week for the Ontario Invite. The Viking girls picked up a team win while the boys settled for second. 

The boys and girls team didn’t qualify for a team score Friday at the Buffalo Peak High School Invitational in Union.

COACH’S COMMENTS: “This was a very good effort for our girls,” said Coach Tom Snook of the effort at the Ontario Invite. “They shot their best team score of the season and several of the girls shot their best individual score. Miranda Raven had a very good day as did Morgan King and Sydney Bolyard. The boys are gaining some valuable experience and we are starting to show improvement.”

Nyssa golf

THE MATCHES: The Nyssa golf team played in the Ontario Invite on Monday at Scotch Pines in Payette and the Buffalo Peak High School Invitational in Union on Friday. 

At the Ontario Invite, the Bulldog girls finished second and the boys finished third. 

Due to a lack of players, Nyssa failed to qualify for a team score at Buffalo Peak.

Nyssa baseball

THE GAMES: On the road last Friday, the Nyssa baseball team dropped two games to the Irrigon Knights, 11-1 and 13-3.

HIGHLIGHTS: Irrigon scored 4 runs in the second and 4 runs in the fifth inning. Elijah Cleaver took the loss for the Bulldogs, going 4.2 innings, striking out 4 Knight batters while the Bulldogs allowed 15 hits, but committed no errors. 

Due to the score, game two was shortened to five innings with the Dawgs scoring three runs in the final inning.

Agustin Trujillo was on the mound for Nyssa, striking out four batters in 2.2 innings. At bat, he also picked up one RBI.

Giles Garner finished the game for Nyssa, pitching just over one inning.

RECORD: 1-10 Eastern Oregon League, 1-22 overall.

NEXT UP: Nyssa was scheduled to host Vale (9-2 league, 13-7 overall) on Tuesday. Due to press time, results were unavailable.

The Bulldogs will wrap up the regular season with two games in Burns (5-5 league, 7-12 overall) on Friday.

Jordan Valley track and field

THE MEET: The Jordan Valley track and field team joined the majority of High Desert teams in a precursor to the district meet at the High Desert Meet on Thursday, May 3, in Prairie City. The boys ended the day in fifth in the team standings with the Mustang girls grabbing third.

Vale track and field

VALE – The Vale track and field team traveled to Baker City on Friday, May 4, taking part in the Baker Invitational. 

Competing against 21 teams from across Oregon, Vale junior Morgan Harrison placed second in the high jump competition, clearing 5 feet, 2 inches.

In the boys 400-meter race, Vale freshman Thayer Williams set a personal record and finished second in the race, clocking a time of 52.44 seconds. Williams holds the second fastest time in the Eastern Oregon League.

THE MEET: The Ontario track and field team faced the other Greater Oregon League in the Baker Invitational on Friday.

The Tiger girls placed fourth while the boys finished eighth.

Ontario freshman Meagan Houston continued to impress the competition with a first-place leap of 17 feet, 3 inches in the long jump. Also picking up first was senior Alex Espinoza in the 200 meters.
