An Ontario High School student was suspended Thursday after he was overheard making threatening statements, according to the Ontario School District.
District officials said school staff and a school resource officer from the Ontario Police Department interviewed the student. A search turned up a small notebook on the student listing threatening actions to students and a threat to “Blow-up School.”
Police also searched the student’s home, but police couldn’t be immediately reached for comment.
Details about either search weren’t immediately available.
“We appreciate the rapid response of Ontario Police Department as well as those students who came forward to report the threat,” said Ontario Superintendent Nicole Albisu. “Communication continues to be our greatest tool in preventing acts of school violence. We continue to encouraged students, staff and the public to report threats to students, staff or schools. Such actions are not taken lightly.”
Albisu issued a written statement, which was posted to the school district’s Facebook page.
“School administrators, the school resource officer and the Ontario Police Department are working collaboratively, taking all possible measures to ensure a safe and secure school environment for the students and staff. Every protocol associated with their safety and security has been reviewed and implemented by the administration, local police and other authorities. Classes will continue as scheduled on Friday, March 2.”
