VALE – After serving as interim superintendent of the Vale School District twice, Alisha McBride was named to the position on a permanent basis recently by the Vale School Board.
The unanimous vote came after teachers and faculty of the district praised McBride for her performance while in the interim position.
“This district needs to stop the revolving door,” said Darlene McConnell, a Vale resident. “I think Mrs. McBride needs to be able to share her vision.”
McConnell told the board McBride had successfully dealt with the problems of budgets and the building of a new middle school.
“I would ask the board to consider the cost of a search for a new superintendent,” McConnell said. “That money is not in the budget.” Those being supervised by McBride also offered support.
“She has excellent leadership and is a great communicator,” said Steve McFetridge, an elementary school teacher. “Plus, she is part of this community.”
Local businessman Logan Hamilton, owner of Logan’s Market, added McBride is the type of person he would be looking for if hiring.
“Her leadership is what we need,” he said. Board members also offered their support.
“She has shown she is capable of doing it,” said board member Scott Gressley.
Board chairman Michael McGourty added McBride was “the right person for the job.”
Board member Randy Seals discussed the problems of hiring a new superintendent while in the process of building a new middle school.
“I have wavered back and forth on this,” Seals said. “I just can’t see handing a new middle school project off to another superintendent.”
McBride graduated from Vale High School in 1999, attended Treasure Valley Community College, earned her bachelor’s degree from Eastern Oregon University and earned her master’s degree from Lewis and Clark College in Idaho. McBride started her career teaching sixth grade at Vale Elementary, worked as the district’s instructional coach and was named director of curriculum and instruction in 2013. She then became principal of the elementary school.
