VALE – Burns handed losses to the Vale High School baseball team in a doubleheader last Friday.

Burns won the first game 10-3 and the second contest 15-3.

The Highlanders claimed the wins despite a solid performance from the mound by Vale’s Josh Buchholz.

“Josh Buchholz pitched four innings to start game one and he was really sharp, giving up three runs, one of those earned, six strikeouts and only one walk,” said Vale baseball coach Rick Yraguen.

Vale finished game one with seven hits. In game two Burns used a strong hitting performance to grease the skids for the win.

“Burns really hit the ball well, and we didn’t,” Yraguen said of game two.

Cody Towers, Cade Perry and Tanner Hamilton all put in time pitching for the Vikings.

Gage Fortin had the only two hits for Vale in the game.

“They (Towers, Perry and Hamilton) fought hard but when the other team is swinging the bat like they were, you got to just give them props,” Yraguen said.

Vale was on the road to play Nyssa Tuesday, with results not available at press time.
