Dawgs race to top at Viking Invite

VALE – The Nyssa track team claimed top honors at the Viking Invitational last Friday.

The Bulldog boys and girls both secured first place in team standings, while the Adrian boys took second.

The Adrian girls team clinched third place.

In team standings, the Nyssa boys scored 161 while the Nyssa girls scored 169 team points.

The Adrian girls finished the meet with a team score of 104. The Adrian boys had 115.

The Vale boys track team ended the day in eighth place with 31 points. The Lady Vikings claimed fourth place in the girls team competition with 82 points.

Highlights included Nyssa’s Justin Simpson taking first place in the 100-meter race, while teammate Dominic Anderson finished third in that event. Simpson also took first in the 200-meter race.

In the 400-meter race, Nyssa’s Isaac Valentin finished with a third-place mark, while Aaron Garcia ended the 800-meter race in fifth place.

The Bulldog boys clinched the two top places in the 1,500-meter race. Jonathan Holcomb was first with a time of 4:41.04, while Micklo Luna was second at 4:51.75. Adrian’s James Ellsworth ended the 1,500-meter in fifth place with a time of 5:00.57.

Holcomb and Luna also secured the two top slots in the 3,000-meter event. Luna’s first-place time was 10:38.22, while Holcomb took second in 11:12.12.

In the 110-meter hurdles, Harper’s Greg Chandler claimed first place with a time of 15.31. Adrian’s Mike Griffin was third with a time of 17.18, and Nyssa’s Nathan Dorathy was fourth place at 19.37.

In the shot put, Nyssa’s Ramiro Duenas finished second and Adrian’s Colton Nielsen was fourth. Duenas also finished with a second-place mark in the discus.

Jonathan Iniguez claimed second place for Nyssa in the pole vault. Vale’s Beau Belnap vaulted to fourth place, and teammate Pepe Rayo was fifth in the event.

Adrian secured the top three slots in the triple jump. Regan Shira was first; Mike Griffin second, and Eduardo Munoz third.

For the girls, Nyssa’s Mickena Ausman was first in the 100-meter race, while Adrian’s Morgan Bayes claimed fifth place.

In the 400-meter, Vale’s Dallie Johnson clinched first place with a time of 1:04.38. Adrian’s Shayla Griffin was third, Nyssa’s Savanna Kesler finished fourth, and Nyssa’s Lily Bybee was fifth.

Audrey Marchek won the 800-meter race, with Adrian’s Bailey Martinez taking second.

Nyssa’s Delia Deleon grabbed first in the 1,500-meter race with a time of 5:09.13 and Adrian’s Lauren Barraza was second in 5:458.12.

In the 100-meter hurdles, Nyssa’s Madisyn Hartley was first, Adrian’s Morgan Bayes finished second, and Nyssa’s Sailor Hartley was third. Vale’s Morgan Harrison claimed fourth place in the 100 meter hurdles while Erin Fulk finished fifth in that event for the Vikings.

The Nyssa’ girls relay team won the 4×100 event.

Nyssa’s Leslie Vela and Samantha Moore placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in the shot put. In the girls discus, Nyssa’s Kierra Hernandez placed fifth.

Nyssa’s Mickena Ausman claimed first place in the Javelin.

Kylee Skerjanec took first in the high jump, with Vale’s Morgan Harrison taking second place.

Sailor Hartley finished first in the pole vault for Nyssa.

In the long jump, Madisyn Hartley was first, Vale’s Brooklyn Phillips came in third, and Adrian’s Selina Villarreal was fourth. Madisyn Hartley also won the triple jump event.
