The latest from the Malheur Enterprise

Good morning and we’re glad you are with us.

The team working on the Treasure Valley Reload Center – the train center in Nyssa – learned that there is doubt about shipping onions. Our team is developing an in-depth story to bring you the latest, but at this hour there remains no plan to finish the project, no plan for how to get the money, and no customers signed up to use it.

Last week, the Enterprise produced an investigative report about Greg Smith, the former Malheur County economic development director. The story examined how Smith, a Republican legislator from Heppner, arranged to increase his salary at a public agency by more than 50%.

Now, the board of the Columbia Development Authority has scheduled a special meeting in Pendleton on Friday, Sept. 20. The agenda lists an executive – closed – session to evaluate Smith. The Enterprise will report any developments.

Meantime, here’s what we’ve covered in recent days to give you stories you won’t find anywhere else.
