Wildfire closes U.S 26, advancing on Brogan

The out-of-control Cow Valley fire forced officials to close U.S. 26 between Brogan and Ironside on Thursday, July 11. The fire reportedly is burning rapidly toward Brogan and people in the area are urged to be alert and ready.

Idaho Power also reports that power is off in the area, with about 750 customers now without electricity.

According to AlertSense: “The Cow Hollow fire has changed direction and is now traveling east, toward the town of Brogan at a high rate of speed.  The fire is on both the south and north sides of the highway.  Citizens living in Brogan and in and around the Brogan canyon may be at risk if fire crews can’t contain it.”

“Brogan citizens are strongly encouraged to make preparations to vacate your home, should the order come at a later time.  Prepare an over-night bag and a change of clothes, as well as medications, phone chargers and pet supplies,” the alert warns

The fire, which started Thursday morning, by late afternoon had covered more than 6,000 acres.

The Enterprise is monitoring this and other fires closely and will post updates to our Facebook page as developments warrant.
