The latest from the Malheur Enterprise

Good morning and we’re glad you are with us.

Fire crews Thursday morning continue to confront wildfires putting building and people at risk.

The River Fire broke out Wednesday afternoon near a church camp along the Malheur River about three miles from the Owyhee Dam. Officials closed Owyhee Lake State Park and the road leading to the lake.

To our north, a wildfire continues to burn in the Huntington area, forcing the closure of U.S. 30 from the Port of Entry to Huntington.

Meantime, excessive heat is forecast to continue through Saturday. Ontario posted a high of 108 on Wednesday, July 10, and is forecast to reach 106 on Thursday. The weather is likely to impact Thunderegg Days in Nyssa, the annual festival that gets underway on Thursday.

The National Weather Service indicates moisture is expected to flow into the area from the south starting Saturday. That means a possibility of thunderstorms. On Sunday, according to the forecast, “The combination of heat, moisture and lift from the approaching trough will fuel more widespread afternoon/evening thunderstorm development.”

The Enterprise news team will continue to update information on fires and the weather.

Meantime, here’s what’s making the news.

A KITTY FOR YOUR HOME?

Dior is a very sweet, playful and gorgeous girl ready to start her happily ever after with a loving family. She is 8 months old.

All of our kitties go home with a “going home gift” of a litter box, food & water dish, toy and a kitty blanket, all of these items have been generously donated.

She is nvaccinated, microchipped and tested negative for FeLV & FIV.

She is an indoor cat only for his safety. No declawing is allowed.

Adoption event: Every Saturday between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. or by appointment at the Constance McCullough House, 84 N.W. 2nd St., Ontario.

OFCP is also in need of volunteers. Do you have a couple of hours a week to help the kitties?

We also desperately need foster homes.. OFCP provides everything you need. You provide a safe place for them to hang out with lots of love until they are big enough to spay/neuter so they can find their loving forever families. Volunteering and fostering are very rewarding and you are changing the lives of these cats.
