What’s new in Malheur County from the Enterprise

Good morning.

The Vale community was rocked by the death of a Vale HIgh School student in a highway collision on Tuesday, April 23. His younger sister was hospitalized as well. The two were on their way home from school.

A candlelight vigil is planned for 8:30 p.m. Friday, April 26, at the football stadium at Vale High School to remember Wyatt Cannon, 17. HIs sister, Sara, 13, also was in the accident.

The event is being hosted by the West Treasure Valley Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Organizers suggest wearing blue to the ceremony and have some candles to provide but ask those attending to bring some as well.

In other news, the Nyssa Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture is hosting its annual banquet on Saturday, April 27. The event features winners of the chamber’s annual awards. The Enterprise has asked the chamber for more details but here are the winners shown on its Facebook page:

•Citizen of the Year: Amy Mardock, a youth transition program specialist at the Malheur Education Service District.

•Public Servant of the Year: John Villanueva, involved with the Nyssa Fire Department.

•Educator of the Year: Tricia Book, Nyssa Elementary School vice principal.

And we’re proud to share that your Enterprise has been nationally recognized again for excellence in journalism. The award is for what we do for you week in and week out – hold public officials accountable and fight government secrecy.
