Local leaders watching bill establishing minimum staffing levels at hospitals

Local leaders are watching a bill establishing minimum nurse-to-patient staff ratios for hospitals and imposing stiff fines for violating them. Backers of the bill say the legislation would ease the exodus of nurses from healthcare and make conditions more tolerable. But, at the same time, hospital administrators contend the law could increase the financial losses hospitals absorbed during the pandemic and lead to less care and services for patients.
