Ontario chamber to honor Man and Woman of the Year
Retired fire chief Terry Leighton and activist Maria Romero-Arambula will be honored as Man and Woman of the Year at the Ontario Area Chamber of Commerce’s annual banquet at Four Rivers Cultural Center, Friday, Jan. 13. The event kicks off at 5:30 p.m. with dinner served at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $40.
Wyden looks to expand protections for Owyhee River and Canyonlands
U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden’s proposed legislation has been dubbed a bipartisan effort. The legislation would protect 15 miles of the Owyhee River from new damming and diversion of the river and designates 1.1 million acres of the canyonlands as wilderness. Additionally, there are provisions to establish broader public land management around cattle grazing. Meanwhile, some ranchers who are otherwise supportive of the bill are concerned about how the legislation will be implemented.
Action’s Bar and Card House: ‘a dream and a vision’
Action’s Bar and Card Room, opened two years ago, days before COVID-19 shut down the economy, endured nearly two years of pandemic protocols. Mike Kelly, owner of Action’s, rode out the worst of the pandemic and has built a strong business with a varied demographic. Kelly’s customers can catch sporting events on the 14 televisions in the bar and play Texas hold’em poker and other card games in the card room above the bar and grill.
