High winds contributed to the spread of the Black Butte Fire, located in Malheur National Forest and southeast corner of Grant County.

Covid, heat combine to stymie renovation of Vale's Rex Theater
The husband and wife team of Mike McLaughlin and Sandijean Fuson of Vale own the theater. Last year the duo received a $90,000 grant from the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department to upgrade the facility.

Wildfires rage across the region, Red Flag warning in effect through Friday morning
Two wildfires were sparked Wednesday evening near Juntura and were at 0% containment Thursday morning. The 4,000 Black Butte fire also continues to burn in Malheur National Forest.

Health care workers in Malheur County to get weekly Covid testing or get vaccinated
Starting Sept. 30, workers in local hospitals and clinics who have direct or indirect contact with patients or infectious material will be required to take weekly tests or prove they are vaccinated.
