At Ontario High, graduation’s all in the familia with Juntos
A program at Ontario High School is targeting Hispanic students and their families to help them prep for higher education. The program called Juntos, a Spanish word that means “together,” first came to Oregon in 2012 and teaches participants about graduation requirements and the college application process.

Public wants vote before Malheur County commits millions, survey shows
The survey, not a scientific sampling of the public, drew more than 150 responses and tested public sentiment about the county’s industrial plans. The county is developing the Treasure Valley Reload Center outside of Nyssa and also wants to create an adjacent industrial park. County officials recently told state officials they intended to use $14 million in county funds to put in streets, utilities and buildings for the industrial park.

'Just be honest' - respondents want Malheur County Court to be more open with development details
More than 100 people posed questions or raised concerns they want addressed by the Malheur County Court, responding to an online survey by the Enterprise. The survey gauged public opinion about the county commissioners' plans to start a government-run industrial park.

Tamales are a traditional dish around the holidays for many Hispanic families. At Ontario Mini Market, owner Angel Perez said the treat is so popular this time of year that he sells 20 to 30 dozen tamales a day leading up to the holiday.

Ontario City Council approves license for tiny homes to house homeless
Last week the Ontario City Council approved a revised license agreement to allow 8-by-10 feet tiny homes for the homeless to be installed in the city. The project will be funded through a state grant.

Mackey's launches challenge to aid Ontario stabbing victim
The Ontario restaurant plans to donate a share of its proceeds from diners on New Year's Eve to help Ronnell T. Hughes, stabbed in what police say was a racially-motivated attack. The restaurant is urging other restaurants to do the same.

Ontario stabbing victim picked 'at random' because he was black, affidavit says
The Ontario Police Department continues its investigation into the stabbing of Ronnell T. Hughes in Ontario on Saturday, Dec. 21. Hughes is recovering in a Boise hospital as the community rallies on his behalf.
