Adrian’s Jace Martin dominates at state meet

Adrian senior Jace Martin brought home gold medals in the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash and 400-meter race, setting a state record in the 100-meter preliminary race with a time of 10.60 at the OSAA track and field state championship meet Thursday and Friday, May 25-26 at Hayward Field in Eugene.
In the 100, Martin finished with a time of 10.95. In the 200, he clocked a time of 22.02, and he won the 400 in 50.94.
Martin was also a part of the boys 1A 4×400 relay team, along with Jesse Walker, Carter Bayes and Chase Franklin, who won the race in 3:32.25.
Martin’s sister, Addy, a sophomore at Adrian, took first place in the Class 1A girls 100-meter dash (12.73), the 200 (26.13), and the 400 (59.53).
Addy was also on the girls 4×400-meter relay team that took home the gold. Junior Presley Speelmon won the girls 800 (2:23.71) and the 1,500 (50:07.71).
The Adrian boys won the Class 1A state championship with 57 points, while the girls squad took second with 64.
The Nyssa girls’ track and field team claimed fourth place in Class 3A with a team score of 47 points, while the Vale girls squad finished eighth with 29. The Vale boys team took seventh with 31 points, while the Nyssa boys placed ninth with 28.
Senior Orin Stipe won the state title for boys Class 3A triple jump (13.10m). Meanwhile, Vale junior Haylee Cleaver took second in the girls Class 3A 100-meter race (12.77) and third in the 200 (26.32).
Cleaver was also part of the girls 4×100 team that included Bella Johnson, Ava Collins and Claire Johnson, bringing home a second-place medal.
The Vale track and field team won 22 medals at the state competition.
