Get ready and get set, the annual Vale Community Steak & Crab feed is just around the corner

VALE – The Vale Community Steak & Crab feed is back on the local docket, set for Saturday, March 25, at the Vale Fire Hall.

The event is sponsored by the Vale Community Coalition and all proceeds will go to the Vale Parks and Recreation Department.

“It’s exciting,” said Zach Knapp, Vale Community Coalition president.

Knapp said the feed will feature a few new tweaks this year. The feed will include a drive-thru portion from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. and then from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. a sit-down dinner will be served inside the fire hall.

“I really want this to be an event people look forward to like they do the Vale Alumni Dinner,” said Knapp.

Another new feature, said Knapp, will be a dessert dash offered during the sit-down dinner. During the dash, guests can donate cash in an envelope at each table. The table with the biggest donation gets to choose the first dessert.

Knapp said the coalition did not want to drop the drive-thru portion of the feed because it proved to be popular last year.

Knapp said the event is really about celebrating the great community of Vale.

“I want to recognize as many community organizations that have done great things as possible,” said Knapp.

He said the event is also a good way to help “encourage people to get involved.”

While the event is sponsored by the Vale Community Coalition, the organization draws on help from a range of individuals, said Knapp.

“I don’t think an event like this is possible without the help of a lot of people,” said Knapp.

There are six choices for the drive-thru dinner:

•Combo: Two crab halves, 16-ounce ribeye steak, baked potato, baked beans, green salad and a roll – $50.

•Steak only: 16-ounce ribeye, baked potato, baked beans, green salad and a roll – $40.

•Crab only: Two crab halves, baked potato, baked beans, green salad and a roll – $40.

•Half combo: One crab half, 8-ounce ribeye steak, baked potato, baked beans, green salad and a roll – $40.

•Half steak: 8-ounce ribeye steak, baked potato, baked beans, green salad and a roll – $30.

•Half crab: One crab half, baked potato, baked beans, green salad and a roll – $30.

The sit-down dinner will consist of hot and cold crab, ribeye steaks, baked potatoes, beans, green salad, rolls and bottled water. Beer, wine and pop will be sold. A single ticket for the sit-down event is $60 and $300 for a table of six.

Tickets are available for purchase at Malheur Drug in Vale, any Vale Community Coalition member or at this link: https://Forms.gle/9XZSSERJURXOOWGJA.

Last year the event generated between $8,000 and $10,000, said Knapp.

“Last year was tough because crab prices were so high but this year prices are looking pretty good,” said Knapp.
